Fiber proof testers are designed to apply a set load to a fusion-spliced optical fiber so that you can test the strength of the spliced fiber. Our FTTH Cable Production Line can be purchased in both linear and rotary designs, for both proof and tension testing. Fiber proof testers are available for single mode, multimode, and polarization-maintaining fibers. Select from dedicated, standalone systems or multipurpose designs which are also capable of stripping, cleaning, cleaving, splicing, or recoating.

Fiber Recoaters with Proof Testers offer easy, integrated methods to recoat and test fusion-spliced fibers. The fiber recoating process restores the buffer coating to a stripped fiber, offering more flexibility than a heat-shrink protection sleeve, enabling that it is handled and coiled without damaging the fusion-spliced section. The integrated linear or rotary proof tester allows users to immediately test a recoated fiber with a pre-determined load and find out the long term longevity of the fiber. Because of the capability to restore a fusion-spliced fiber to near original condition, these systems are best for applications like undersea optical fiber cables, submarine communication cabling, fiber lasers, or Distributed Bragg Reflector (DBR) lasers.

This process starts off with the fusion-spliced part of fiber being placed in the middle of the mold assembly (see image to the right). Once set in position, inserts inside the fiber blocks secure the spliced fiber in position. Recoat material is pumped into the cavity and after that UV-cured. The recoated fiber may then be tested by pulling on it as much as a pre-determined load.

Recoater and Mold Assembly Options

Recoaters can be purchased with either a computerized or manual mold assembly. The Optical Fiber Coloring Machine features pneumatic charge of the mold plates and is optimized for top-volume manufacturing applications. Manual mold assemblies, on the other hand, use hinged mold plates that offer more flexibility and are best for low-volume manufacturing or R&D applications. An automated or manual volumetric dispensing pump and injection method is used to inject the recoat material into the mold cavity.

The PTR208 automatic recoater comes standard having a mold assembly for Ø430 µm coated fibers; For your manual recoaters (Item #s PTR206, PTR206B, PTR307, and PTR307B), the mold assembly comes separately in order that customers can choose the best mold coating diameter for their application. Custom mold coating sizes can be purchased as much as Ø900 µm. Pre-installation of the mold assembly on the factory is additionally available. We provide you with both high-index (Item # AB950200) and low-index (Item # PC373) recoat materials for use during these recoaters. Recoaters with manual injection pumps (Item #s PTR206B and PTR307B) are compatible with both kinds of recoat material; all the other recoaters are appropriate for the high-index material only. Our manual recoaters with an automatic injection system (Item #s PTR206 and PTR307) could be customized to work alongside the low- and-index recoat material; please contact Tech Support for additional information.

Proof Tester Options

The PTR206, PTR206B, and PTR208 Fiber Recoaters have an integrated linear proof tester, that takes the fiber up to a predetermined load (20 N) and then releases it. The linear proof tester uses the same fiber holding blocks since the recoater and thus the fiber does not have to be moved prior to testing. The PTR307 and PTR307B Fiber Recoaters have Sheathing Line, which may perform both proof and tension tests (?89 N). One set of proof test grips is included; replacement proof test grips can be purchased below in packs of 10. Each testing process is fully programmable using the included handset or tablet controller, allowing an individual to choose parameters including the load, the pace at fseejm the burden is applied, and the hold time.

Inserts for Fiber Holding Blocks

In addition to the above, we provide a number of inserts to use inside the fiber holding blocks from the recoaters to be able to support a variety of fiber coating diameters. For recoaters with a rotary proof tester, the inserts are suitable for fiber coating diameters in a range from 125 µm to 900 µm. For recoaters with a linear proof tester, the inserts cover a range for fiber coatings from Ø250 µm to Ø900 µm.
